What is keyword stuffing?

Last Updated: March 20, 2006 12:04 PM

Keyword stuffing is a search engine positioning technique that, as the name suggests, revolves around stuffing keywords onto a Web page, generally in an attempt to trick search engines into boosting the page's ranking. However, search engines generally perceive keyword stuffing as spamming and treat content that includes keyword stuffing accordingly. Excessive use of keyword stuffing could lead to the removal of a site from a search engine's listings. There are several ways to stuff keywords. One of the more common — but easily detected — keyword stuffing methods is to place excessively repeated keywords in the Keywords Meta tag.
