To effectively direct customers from an existing domain to your Quick Shopping Cart sub-domain, you need to modify the Zone records with your domain registrar.
You must modify the “A” record, also called a host record, within your Zone records. This record connects your domain name to your IP address, which allows a user to type in your domain name and access your Web files on the Internet. “A” records are the most common type of zone record.
To Modify Zone Records
- Log in to your account at your domain registrar’s Web site.
- Locate the Zone record set up for your domain.
- If you already have a sub-domain of "shop" for your domain, for example shop.best-widgets.com, edit the entry. If this sub-domain is new, add a new A record to your Zone File.
The entry should state the URL of your sub-domain and the IP address assigned to it. To find out the IP Address assigned to your sub-domain, please contact customer support and request instructions for how to ping your domain to determine the IP Address.
The “A” record should look something like this: shop.best-widgets.com – A type = IP Address (64.202.18x.xxx)
NOTE: Not all registrars will allow you to modify these records. If your registrar will not allow you to modify your Zone records, contact their customer support department for help.
